Basic Needs to Scrapbook!

Basic Needs to start Scrapbooking/Card Making.

First of all there is no wrong way to scrapbook!!  So bring your imagination and/or a favorite Scrap magazine to scrap lift from (Yes that is legal!).

Basic Tool List:

Scissors – Small, pointed and preferably sticky resistant.

Paper Cutter- 12 x 12 is the best size.  There are several styles and makes but a good cutter will have a lifting arm to place your paper under and an extra ruler underneath.

Adhesive – Acid free and lingun free. There are various things you can use: Glue dots, squares, 2 sided tapes, Exyron tools, glue pens, sprays. But for now you may want a glue pen and squares.

Paper – Decide what size if album you are doing.  Your card stock can be bought to suit your size requirements.

Eraser and HB pencil – Eraser should be the white kind – pink can leave marks and is not acid free.  Your pencil is for temporary markings and will be erased.

Ruler – Any kind will do but there now is one on the market that does a whole lot more than straight edges.  The particular ruler can be seen in your CTMH Idea Book.

Album- Whatever size page you have decided to make that is the size album you need.  The most popular sizes are 12 x 12, then 8.5 x 11 (inches).   You also need to consider whether you are wanting, a post album, ring album, or strap hinge album.  I can show examples of all three.

Acid Free Pen  - Used for journaling.

The above are your basic tools for albums or cards.   Everything can be purchased through me, your Close To My Heart Independent Consultant but basically anywhere.

As you get more involved in card making or scrapping I can show you more tools to get more detailed with.  But sticking to basics here, there are some important things to be aware of when scrapping:

Paper and adhesives should be acid and lingen free.   You do not want to go to a whole lot of work only to have your pages turn yellow and your pictures fade.  You have all seen those magnetic albums…So, so bad for your pictures.   Ink pen on the back or front of your pictures will also because of the acid in ink eventually ruin your pictures. Your hands should be clean and free of hand creams while you are working – again the acid/oils can ruin your work.

If you are planning to scrap an item that is not acid free there is a spray you can buy to prevent ageing.  It is called Archival Mist and can be bought in various sizes.  This might be an essential item also; but maybe not in the beginning.

There are hundreds of tools out there to be used, you just have to pick your favorite; and hopefully not after you have tried some of the duds, in my opinion, like me.

I find scrapbooking to be therapeutic and relaxing.  I have fun with it, I cry with it and I enjoy my results, even the pages I did in the beginning.  They show how my scrapbooking has evolved.

My family enjoys the treasures I have made for them.  They appreciate the memories I am preserving for them.  I appreciate the memories I am preserving.  Above all I am out to have fun through scrapbooks and cards.  I get totally excited each time I start a new project and try a new idea.

As you move beyond the basics let me show you how to conserve your page cost by using even your scraps.  You can make your art as expensive as you want or as cheap as you want per page.  Either way just have fun…
